Thank you for providing your feedback and ideas for the future of the Public Health Mobile Units. The final report on the engagement process is now available for review from the Document library, or click here.
The Public Health Mobile Unit (PHMU) program was developed in fall 2020 to bring COVID-19 services to communities across the province, and quickly provide testing support during outbreaks. The PHMU fleet includes seven testing vans staffed by a collaborative team of Public Health nurses, emergency support aides, administrative professionals, drivers, and management. PHMU is supported by many areas in Nova Scotia Health including Communications, Laboratory Services, Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT), COVID-19 services, Interprofessional Practice and Learning (IPPL), and Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), just to name a few. PHMU staff provide on-site PCR testing, distribute rapid test kits, provides support for COVID immunizations and can help people find answers to their COVID-19 questions. There are three PHMU vans located in each of EZ, NZ and WZ. These vans are supported by local public health for zone outreach immunization programs
As we move forward, we are looking to determine how else the PHMU can play a role in our communities across Nova Scotia by expanding beyond the existing scope of PCR testing, rapid kit distribution, and immunization after April 2024.
